Thinning Skin, Depleting Muscle Mass & Aging

The fact is that our faces change as we age. Maturing, gravity, photo-damage in time all take their toll on the skin.

Skin thinning happens primarily because of a loss of two essential skin proteins, collagen and elastin. Collagen provides structure and support to the skin, while elastin provides elasticity. However, over time, as your elastin levels drop, it will take the skin longer to bounce back. That loss of elastin is largely sun-induced but also due to chronological aging. You may also notice fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, pigmentation issues and sagging jowls.

Varied things about the face alter with age. Muscle, skin, fat and other soft tissue layers change as the years progress. Our facial cartilage and bones structure also do too.

The epidermis thins as we mature. Laxness of facial muscles and loss of muscle mass are just two factors that lead to facial sagging. Skin elasticity and fat mass also play a role.

Studies have shown that total muscle mass in the body decreases by nearly 50 percent between the ages 20 and 90.  Past the age of 40, we lose approximately one percent of our muscle mass each year.

Injectable therapies work to mask the visual signs of ageing but do NOTHING to treat the underlying causes.

Jessicat clients can negate or minimize their use of injectable therapies because our treatments aim to create thicker, stronger, and structurally better skin.

To combat this problem, we need to be repair and rebuilt the dermis, so that it can continue to function optimally.

As we mature our skin cells start making less Adenosine Triphosphate, (ATP), which is the very energy currency within every cell of our body.

As ATP levels decrease our skin cells have less ability to function optimally, resulting in less collagen, elastin, and blood vessel growth, which causes the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, pigmentation issues such as age spots, and sagging skin.

The dermis is the deepest layer of the skin and is responsible for creating blood vessel growth and sending new collage and elastin growth up into the epidermis.

Another contributing factor is Depleting Muscle mass. Muscle mass begins to deplete in our early to late 30’s and can go undetected until it reaches a tipping point where the signs of ageing become evident quickly, making mature age women feel like they have aged almost overnight.

A variety of hormonal changes are seen during the aging process that may contribute to muscle loss with aging.

Loss of muscle tone, muscle atrophy and thinning skin gives the face a loose or drooping appearance. In some people, sagging jowls may create the look of a double chin. Your skin also dries out and the underlying layer of fat shrinks so that your face no longer has a plump, smooth surface.

Yes, change occurs, we’re all aware of this but is there anything we can do about it?

Don't go spending thousands of dollars on quick fix injectables, superficial treatments and expensive skincare products that really don't address the underlying issue long term for lasting results, Our 5-Stage Face Lifting and Intensive Microcurrent muscle treatments work to repair, rebuild, lift, tone, and sculpt the muscles of the full face and neck areas.
